Within the project of Invited Chair in Nanotechnology at Madeira Chemistry Research Centre, financed by Santander Bank, the Madeira Chemistry Research Centre (CQM), University of Madeira, Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal, is offering a grant for scientific research (M/F), in the following conditions:

Scientific area: Chemistry/Biochemistry/Materials (nanotechnology for medical applications).

Admission requirements: The candidates must have a Bachelor degree or currently be a Master or Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials science or in related fields. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in nanomaterials for CT imaging.

Working Plan: Hypoxia-responsive dendrimer-entrapped gold nanoparticles modified with tirapazamine for CT imaging and enhanced radiation therapy.

Laws and applicable regulation: Portuguese Law n. 40/2004, of 18 of August (Research Grant Holder Statute); Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology and Grants Regulation of the University of Madeira.

Workplace: The work shall be carried out at the Madeira Chemistry Research Centre of the University of Madeira, under the guidance of Prof. Xiangyang Shi and Prof. Helena Tomás. For further details visit CQM webpage at http://cqm.uma.pt.

Duration of the grant: The grant will last 4 months; the work is due to start in November 2017. The grant contract is not extendable.  

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly stipend of the grant is €745, according to the stipend table awarded directly by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), which can be found at http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores

Selection Methods: By evaluation of the Curriculum Vitae (50%) and the research experience relevant for the working plan (50%). 

Jury composition: Prof. Xiangyang Shi (President), Prof. Helena Tomás (effective member), Doctor Carla Alves (effective member), and Prof. João Rodrigues (substitute member).

Results disclosure: The final evaluation results (ordered list based on the obtained classification) will be disclosed at Madeira Chemistry Research Centre website (http://cqm.uma.pt) and at the Unidade de Projetos e Cooperação (UPC) website (http://upc.uma.pt). The selected candidate will be informed by e-mail.
