Within the framework of the project MarineBlueRefine PROCiência2020 (Portaria nº 371/2015, de 16/12), M1420-01-0247-FEDER-000006 Centro de Química da Madeira (CQM), University of Madeira, Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal, is seeking for one researcher (M/F) holding a PhD Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering,  Materials Sciences or related fields with experience in Organic Chemistry, Chromatographic and Spectroscopic Techniques, to perform several tasks of the referred project under supervision of the PI, in the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Chemistry/Marine Natural Products or Materials Sciences 

Admission requirements: The candidates must have a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Sciences or similar area. It is requested good hands-on experience in Spectroscopy and Chromatography in the field of Organic Chemistry.

Working plan: 1) Characterization of fish waste extracts. 2) Optimization of experimental conditions for extractions, isolation of and purification of bioactive components. 3) Physical and chemical characterization of purified substances. 4) Production of scientific papers and communications.

Applicable laws and regulations: Portuguese Law n. 40/2004, of 18 of August (Research Grant Holder Statute); Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology and Grants Regulation of the University of Madeira.

Work place: The work will be developed at Madeira Chemistry Research Centre, Organic Chemistry and Natural Products Laboratory (NatLab), under the supervision of Prof Paula Castilho. For further details, visit CQM web pages at http://cqm.uma.pt.

Grant length: The grant is expected to begin in October 2017 and end in March 2018, with the possibility of extension up to 18 months.

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The scholarship amounts to € 1495 per month, according to the stipend table awarded directly by the Universidade da Madeira.
Selection method: Selection will be based on the candidates’ CV, analysis of other relevant documents and availability.

Jury composition: Prof. Paula Castilho (President of the Jury), Prof. Pedro Pires, Prof. Helena Tomás, Prof. José Carlos Mesquita (substitute member).

Results disclosure: The final evaluation results (ordered list based on the obtained classification) will be disclosed in Madeira Chemistry Research Centre internet site (http://cqm.uma.pt) and in Unidade de Projetos e Cooperação internet site (http://upc.uma.pt/). The selected candidate will be informed by e-mail.
